Ready? Set? GO!
United Way of Calgary and area is proud to launch into this season of giving. With the needs of our community growing year-over-year, we are coming together to develop solutions to help Calgarians meet their needs today and create long-term change.
One in four Calgarians can’t meet their basic needs, like food, shelter and clothing. When those basics are out of reach, we see the reverberations of that through their lives, including mental health and relationships. The needs are great but, together, we are greater. United, we can make an important difference in the lives of our friends, neighbours and fellow Calgarians.
This is our month
September is United Way Month in Calgary! From volunteering with United Way to organizing a workplace campaign – there’s no shortage of ways you can get involved in making our community better.
This month highlights the work we do in our community in four key areas:
Last year, nearly 700 workplaces stepped up to improve people’s financial and living situations supported people’s mental health, created a sense of belonging and encouraged positive and supportive relationships.
What’s Happening?
This month, we’re reaching out in our community to raise awareness of the issues Calgarians are facing. We’re coming together to host and attend events with big impact. Here’s how you can get involved.
September 1 – United Way of Calgary and Area is also excited to sponsor and walk in the Calgary Pride Parade on September 1. The work done during the week goes a long way in seeing breakthroughs in diversity and inclusion in the city.
September 5 – We are excited for the Big Day of Caring on September 5. Engaging workplaces in meaningful ways of giving sets United Way up for a big month! This is a great way for smaller companies to kick off their own United Way Campaign.
September 7–17 – We’re coming together with Calgarians to give back to the community in a tangible, meaningful way and one that supports those in need during a challenging time through our Basic Needs Round-Up. In partnership with WINS, NextDoor, connectFirst credit union and other community partners, we’re asking Calgarians to donate those basic needs – grocery store gift cards, Calgary Transit passes, personal hygiene items, baby supplies, cleaning supplies, technology devices and others – all helping those in our community, ensuring people don’t have to wonder where their next meal is coming from or how they’ll get to work. Monetary donations are welcomed all year round.
September 17 – United Way of Calgary and Area will host its Campaign Kickoff on Stampede Park. This is our official starting line and call to action for the community to give through United Way, creating a better tomorrow for those in need in our community. Everyone is invited to join us at a fun, carnival-like atmosphere to connect with agency partners and learn more about how you can make a big difference this fall.
September 28 – On Canadian Music Day at Rec Rooms across the country, you can enjoy an incredible day of live performances by top Canadian emerging artists, special guests and exciting contests and giveaways. And the best part? One dollar from every ticket sale will be donated to United Way to support youth mental health programs in the local community! Talk about win-win!
It’s a big month!
