United Way of Calgary and Area is deeply committed to our core values of diversity and inclusion. We believe strong communities are built on understanding, acceptance and equality for all.

We, like many around the world, have been watching the heartbreaking news unfolding in the United States, and the tragic reminders of injustice and inequality on display. We recognize that Canada has its own history of systemic racism, which is still alive today. This racism prevents Indigenous, Black and other marginalized communities from reaching their full potential, denies them opportunities to build the best possible life, and compromises their safety and wellbeing.

We are committed to the work we still have to do, and know that partnerships are the key to driving forward meaningful, lasting change in our community. We will continue to work with donors, corporations, agencies, and governments to stand against racism and injustice in the fight to eradicate it.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in the place they live, work, and raise their families, and we won’t stop until an equitable community—free of racism—is achieved.
