Math and Science Tutors

Help high school students improve their math, science and study skills. But be prepared to be more than a tutor! You will be a positive adult in the lives of youth, offering encouragement and inspiration to All In for Youth participants, selected on the basis of academic and financial need, and motivation to succeed.

Location:

All quadrants of Calgary – community-based, with locations at Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot, Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge, Saddletowne YMCA, Shawnessy YMCA, Remington YMCA at Quarry Park, Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton, Greater Forest Lawn library, Crescent Heights High School, Village Square Leisure Centre, and Vivo Community Hub, as well as online via Zoom.

Clearance Required:

Calgary Police Services Check, including vulnerable sector search and Child Welfare Check (completed with YMCA staff assistance).

Screening & Training:

An in-person interview and three professional references are required as well as the following (FREE) mandatory onboarding/orientation sessions (12 hours, total):

  • YMCA Calgary Child Protection Policy & Orientation
  • YMCA Onboarding, Health & Safety
  • YMCA Tutoring Orientation

Commitment:

Minimum commitment of: Two hours once a week, for a minimum of one school year (approximately 10 months). Math tutor shifts are after school hours, Monday-Thursday. The day of the week and time of day depend upon location.
