United Way’s Partnership with Gateway

Working together to help newcomers

Gateway is a new collaboration among organizations to better serve and support newcomers who choose to make Alberta their new home.

Gateway serves as a personal guide to help each newcomer through their unique journey, connecting them to the right service at the right agency every time—helping unleash their economic, social, and civic potential.

What does Gateway do?

Immigrants arriving in Alberta can face barriers that prevent them from meeting their full potential. Lack of coordination between agencies, gaps in information, and a lack of visibility for immigrant-related services leaves many newcomers unequipped to navigate their new home successfully.

Gateway is a new collaboration among organizations to better serve and support newcomers who choose to make Alberta their new home. Gateway streamlines the intake process, standardizes the needs assessment, and refers clients to best-fit services in their community through secured technology.

Gateway partners work together to ensure newcomers are connected to the right service at the right agency every time—helping pave the way to a brighter future for all newcomers in our community.

How is United Way involved?

Gateway partners include immigrant-serving agencies, educational and faith-based institutions and community organizations that offer services to newcomers, academics, researchers, and funders.

The Gateway Partner Advisory Council (GPAC) is comprised of seven partners that provide advice, input, and feedback on strategies, options, and analytical frameworks in the development and execution of Gateway. These partners include United Way of Calgary and Area, the Centre for Newcomers (CFN), La Cite Des Rocheuses, Calgary Local Immigration Partnership (CLIP), Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC), The Immigrant Education Society (TIES), and University of Calgary: Faculty of Social Work.
