May 20, 2025 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Join us for the orientation on the Indigenous concept of “Existing camp, Old camp, and New camp

As part of the implementation plan for the Akak’stiman Indigenous Strategy, one of United Way’s key organizational commitments is to identify and co-create learning activities to build the internal capacity of United Way staff and external capacity with our partners.

“When the Thunder Comes” – Existing Camp, Old Camp, New Camp Orientation/Refresher offers the orientation (or refresher for some) on the Indigenous concept of “Existing camp, Old camp, and New camp”. Elder Reg Crowshoe will be facilitating this orientation.

If there is time, we will invite participants to a Q&A component of this session.

Please arrive a few minutes before the start time, to get settled so the Elder can get started on time.

The session will begin with a smudge and blessing.

In the spirit of our journey to promote reconciliation, we would like to honour the truth of our shared history and acknowledge Treaty 7 territory and the traditional lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy, that includes the Kainai, Siksika, and Piikani First Nations. We acknowledge the traditional lands of the Tsuut'ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda, including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations. We would also like to recognize the Métis people, and the Inuit people who have made their home here in Moh'kins'tsis, also known as Calgary.
