Indigenous perspective on “way of life, parenting, and kinship”

January 21, 2025 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

As part of the implementation plan for the Akak’stiman Indigenous Strategy, one of United Way’s key organizational commitments is to identify and co-create learning activities to build the internal capacity of United Way staff and external capacity with our partners.

“Time for Ceremony” – Indigenous perspective on “way of life, parenting, and kinship” explores the Indigenous perspective teaching on these concepts. If there is time, we will invite participants to a Q&A component of this session.

Please a few minutes before the start time, to get settled so the Elder or Knowledge Keeper can get started on time.

The session will begin with a smudge and blessing by the Elder or Knowledge Keeper.

Elijah BeaverIndigenous perspective on “way of life, parenting, and kinship”

In the spirit of our journey to promote reconciliation, we would like to honour the truth of our shared history and acknowledge Treaty 7 territory and the traditional lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy, that includes the Kainai, Siksika, and Piikani First Nations. We acknowledge the traditional lands of the Tsuut'ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda, including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations. We would also like to recognize the Métis people, and the Inuit people who have made their home here in Moh'kins'tsis, also known as Calgary.
