For many families, the start of the school year brings financial strain. School supplies can be expensive, and the costs add up quickly—especially for households with multiple children.

That’s why United Way of Calgary and Area (United Way) is joining forces with Staples Canada to provide more than 130 fully stocked backpacks for high school students through United Way’s All In for Youth initiative!

The August 6 backpack drive was made possible through the generous support of volunteers, and sponsors, including lead sponsor South Bow, as well as AltaLink and Industrial Alliance. Through financial, in-kind and promotional support, these companies are showing students that their community believes in them. Their partnership and support are helping Calgary children and youth reach their potential.

Together, we can ensure every high school student starts their year with the tools they need to succeed—from notebooks and math sets, to calculators, binders and pencil pouches and so much more.

About All In for Youth

More than ten years ago, United Way’s All In for Youth Signature Initiative launched in Calgary to increase on-time graduation.

  • In 2012, only 75 per cent of Alberta youth were completing high school on time.
  • That number has risen, with 84 per cent of Calgary students completing high school in the 2022-2023 school year, thanks in part to All In for Youth’s mission.
