The contributions of Black Canadians are woven into the fabric of our nation’s history and future. United Way of Calgary and Area (United Way) is proud to stand alongside and invest in Black-led initiatives, ensuring Black leadership, culture and resilience continue to thrive.
This Black History Month, we proudly honour 2025’s theme Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations. Through the Grassroots Empowerment Moh’kinstsis (GEM) initiative, we are working alongside seven Black-led grassroots organizations as they address challenges, strengthen advocacy and build pathways toward a more inclusive future.
“Through GEM, we were able to expand our programs and support even more families. The impact goes beyond funding—it’s about empowering our community to lead,” says Humaira Falak, United Way’s DEI strategist. United, we are creating opportunity and improving lives for everyone in our city.
