Mentor

Mentors are essential for many youth as they work to complete their schooling and prepare for their futures. As a mentor, you will help a young person develop personal awareness, new skills, connections and future aspirations.

Location:

All quadrants; school or community-based. Proximity is a factor in matching.

Clearance Required:

Calgary Police Services Check and Alberta Child & Family Services Check.

Screening & Training:

In-person interview and three professional references who have known the mentor for 2+ years are required.

Mentors receive 6 hours of in-person training before a scheduled in-person interview and pre-match training (about 90 minutes). This is followed by online training (about 30 minutes). Further training and development opportunities are provided following a successful match.

Commitment:

6 – 8 hours a month for a minimum of one year. We recommend in-person contact twice a month, in addition to virtual contact via email, Skype, text messaging and/or social networks.

Note:

It can take 2+ months to work through the application, clearance and training process.
