United Way Metis 2022 Online Event: “Believe in the Metis”

FreePlease join us on November 15, along with Métis knowledge keepers, for this afternoon of rich, in-depth discussions and engagement with Métis community members. We offer this opportunity to shed some light on the unique journey of Métis people who were once “hidden in plain sight” but are now proud Métis champions.
In the words of Métis leader Louis Riel: “My people will sleep for a hundred years, but when they awake, it will be the artists who give them their spirit back.”
Session 1, Increasing Métis Voices and Visibility: 1:00 to 2:20 p.m.
- Elder Edmee – opening prayer
- 1:10 – 1:40 p.m. – Vicki Bouvier* – PhD thesis (identity in urban settings)
- 1:40 – 2:10 p.m. – Elder Edmee
- Question and Answer (~10 minutes)
Session 2, Language, Song, and Culture: 2:30 to 3:50 p.m.

- 2:40 – 3:10 p.m. – Wynter Ducharme – plants and crafting
- 3:10 – 3:40 p.m. – Ross Pambrun** (The Squeaky Wheel) – song and art
